LAN Backbone FAQ

Last updated: 2026-10-27

Does the Backbone include channels, movies, or a subscription?

No. It organizes lawful Xtream, live M3U, and XMLTV sources that you configure. WyreDeck supplies no channels, streams, playlists, provider accounts, hosted catalog, or content subscription.

Do I need a WyreDeck account for local use?

No account is required for local Free use. An anonymous account supports Cloud pairing and account/tier functions. Local LAN trust is a separate approval between one client and your appliance.

Is Premium available, and what does it cost?

Premium is planned but not active, and payments are unavailable. No price, purchase method, paid-time duration, tax treatment, or refund terms are published. See the canonical Premium summary rather than treating a private implementation as a product release.

Are Free and Standard the same thing?

No. Free and Premium are account tiers. Standard and Full are source editions. Standard is the planned free public distribution with Premium implementation omitted; Full contains that implementation but does not itself grant Premium. See Free, Premium, and Backbone editions.

Can I download Standard or Full today?

This guide does not announce a public download. Standard's public repository or release location, source license, and final supported-host/client list are not finalized. Full's distribution method is also undecided.

Can every WyreDeck client use every Backbone feature?

No universal support claim applies. The resource protocol is shared, but client implementation, physical-device behavior, codecs, metadata options, and edition capabilities vary. Check the behavior of the specific client and source edition.

Does an appliance get its own account device quota?

No. An enrolled appliance consumes an ordinary account device slot. The account service reports the current limit; an initial tier configuration is only an example, not a fixed Premium-limit promise.

Does Standard include provider artwork, descriptions, and episodes?

Yes, when the provider supplies them. Ordinary provider catalog data is part of the shared foundation, not a Premium feature. Standard omits Backbone-managed TMDB enrichment, household profiles, and cross-client playback-state execution.

Will a TMDB key add managed metadata to Standard?

No. Standard does not contain that implementation. A separate direct client TMDB own-key path is planned for both tiers on supported clients, but it does not add server-side enrichment or managed Discovery.

Does the Backbone play or transcode video?

It serves catalog data and resolves direct provider playback sources for clients. The client and provider handle playback. The appliance does not transcode media, guarantee codec support, or increase a provider's simultaneous-stream allowance.

Is local pairing the same as Cloud pairing?

No. Local pairing issues an appliance-bound client credential. Cloud pairing links a device to the anonymous account service. Use wyredeck.com/pair/ only for the account pairing flow, not as a substitute for appliance-local approval.

What happens if the Backbone goes offline?

The client should report that the appliance-managed source is unavailable. It must not silently substitute a local provider copy. Reconnect or repair local trust explicitly, or deliberately configure a separate Local Install.

Does a failed sync erase the last good catalog?

A failed or incomplete refresh can retain the last good catalog instead of treating an outage as an authoritative empty source. Check the actual sync error and summary before retrying, and do not reset the provider or database by default.

Will every client remove stale titles at the same time?

Not necessarily. Removal feeds exist, but client adoption and refresh behavior can differ. A restored database also requires clients to discard removal cursors and rebuild their active snapshot before incremental removal polling resumes.

Is resume shared across providers and devices?

Not by default on Standard, and not merely because two titles match. Full's resume and LAN playback-state features are planned Premium capabilities. Cross-provider identity and timeline evidence plus client support are required; a matching name does not make two streams equivalent.

Where are provider credentials and viewing data stored?

They remain on the client for Local Install or on your Backbone for appliance-managed sources. The WyreDeck account service does not receive provider credentials, provider catalogs, or viewing state. Read the Privacy policy and Backbone security and privacy.

How do I back up or restore safely?

Use the appliance backup command, preserve the database and original encryption key together, save configuration separately, and explicitly migrate after restore. Never delete a keyfile to bypass a wrong-key error. Follow Operate and recover.

Where should I start when something fails?

Use Troubleshooting for non-destructive checks, then follow Diagnostics to prepare a manually redacted support message.
